The Case of the Blueberry Bandit

Recently we bought a WHOLE BUNCH of blueberries, and they seem to have mysteriously disappeared overnight. I just thought, oh, they must have just gotten devoured very quickly. Turns out, Kaden took them from the fridge and hid them in his room!!!! We found out when he came down the stairs from his room with two boxes of blueberries in hand and said "anyone want BLUEBERRIES?"... I guess that was to be expected from a boy who likes to take sticks of butter from the fridge and stuff them in his pockets "for snacking later".

New family member

It's finally warm! We have been hiding out for most of the winter (from the WHITE DEATH). We have a new family member.... His name is Momo and he is a 4 month old Shih Tzu puppy. We adopted him from a lady who couldn't keep him in her new apartment. Momo's former name was "Charlie". Maeve didn't think that was a good dog name, so after much discussion with suggestions thrown out like "PIZZA" and "DONKEY (from Shrek)", we all agreed Momo was the best choice. The kids are happy, the dog is snappy, so all is good.

Chubby Cheese & Dragon Fruits

We went to Chunky Cheese's for Len's nephew's birthday. Great place to go if you want a migraine. I had the privilege to witness some parent yelling at their kid "SHUT UP YOU #$&#*($&#*". Nice. Not only were there rude children running around, the parents were also unbelievably rude. We stood in line to wait with Maeve and Kaden to get their photo "drawn" at the Chubby Cheese photo booth - and we were waiting for what seemed like hours as the incredibly RUDE woman who had decided to take up residence in the booth put in token after token to get her photo taken with all her thirty children...one..by...one.

But, the kids had fun, and that's all that matters.

We took a trip to Jungle Jim's after Chubby Cheese's and we FINALLY found dragon fruit (pitaya) for Kaden! He's been asking for them for a while now (...since we left Hawaii, which was 2 years ago). We've been trying so hard to buy local, but we justified that we bought the fruit to get the seeds and plant them. Just like how we justified buying the pineapple... the papaya...the meyer lemon...

It's been a while.

I have neglected blogging. Maybe it's because my laptop died (Kaden kicked it to oblivion - by accident of course), or maybe it's because I have no time. Whatever.
Since my last blog entry, we:
  • traveled to Rochester NY
  • went to Niagara Falls
  • drew plans for our vegetable garden
  • debated margarine vs. butter
  • went to a chili cook-off and walked through a corn maze in the shape of a tractor...

Jelly & Cheese

Last night Kaden came out from the kitchen with a block of piave cheese in one hand and a jar of grape jelly in the other. He said "I want these". Together?? Yep, and he was serious. So I sliced a piece of cheese and topped it off with some jelly and handed it to him. He looked sooo pleased with his concoction and gobbled it up and wanted another one.

2 in a row

I just realized that Maeve is going to the same school two years in a row! She's no longer the "new girl". Since she started kindergarten she's been at:
1. Hancock Elementary, San Diego, CA
2. Nimitz Elementary, Honolulu, HI
3. Doyle Elementary, La Jolla, CA
4. Lehua Elementary, Pearl City, HI
5. Makakilo Elementary, Makakilo, HI
6. Mauka Lani Elementary, Makakilo, HI
7. Symmes Elementary, Cincinnati, OH
She's extraordinarily well adjusted for having switched school so many times as a navy brat... I think she was a little bummed she wasn't starting at a new school this year but she's also happy to see her friends again... "the same ones!"
