Bastille Day

The highlight of our weekend was the "Bastille Day" festival in Montgomery on Saturday. We didn't plan on going there, we were driving to the park when we spotted tents and clowns and decided to check it out (I think it was the clowns that sold us). The festival booths lined about 2 street blocks and comprised of food and games for kids. I beelined for the food. I sampled the pain au chocolat (that's french for chocolate bread) and the *authentic* belgian waffles. The chocolate bread was okay, not as great as the ones from Bread & Cie in San Diego (if you ask my husband he would tell you that I say everything is better in San Diego). It was more like a chocolate croissant. BUT the belgian waffle was DELISH. I think it was the best Belgian Waffle I had ever had. It seemed like the real deal - the waffle was super crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, topped with fresh strawberries and a huuge mound of whipped cream. YUM.
